For Petra, painting is love!

She brings the creative spirit and energy of her native, beautiful and artistic city of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture in 2019. The sculptor Atanas Karadechev discovered art as a child. He is also her first teacher and she learns a lot from him. In Plovdiv, Petra also graduated from the Art High School. This is the city where he held his first exhibitions and appeared as an artist.

Painting has been close to her heart since she was in high school, so she continued her education in this field at the Jules Paskin Art Academy in Sofia. There, in the class of Professor Nikolay Maistorov, he mastered the secrets of art, whose means of expression are colors. Through them, she conveys on the canvas her thoughts, ideas, feelings and suggests them on an emotional level, and the images she creates represent the idea embodied in them. At the Academy, Nikolay Maistorov taught his students that painting is a way of thinking.

Petra Dobrevska knows how to handle colors. Depending on their saturation and shades, it affects different levels of perception in the viewer. Feels colors and their dependence on the properties of objects and their surroundings. The artist understands well that they also depend on the one who perceives them. When she paints, she takes into account that the same color, surrounded by similar colors, but located in a different context, is perceived by the human eye in a different way. This is how he uses the optical illusion.

For her, the study and improvement of sensibility is a very important moment of a person's development. She pays special attention to this issue with the Senses Awaken project. She created this cycle of paintings two years ago in nature, which fills her with a creative, spiritual uplift and is a constant source of enthusiasm and excitement for her.

Painting for Petra is love, and love is like breathing - you take in a breath, let it out without thinking. Through drawing, through painting, she lives and feels the world around her. They inspire her in everything she does. Favorite work is like communicating with the person you love - easy and pleasant. It is like your favorite clothes – it is light and comfortable.

As a student of Nikolay Maistorov, the artist often seeks to convey the mood and character of the design and, like her teacher in the spirit of expressionism, expresses herself sometimes too dramatically. Her style is very expressive. In most cases, she seeks to pour onto the canvas her own emotions and the resonance that events, objects and people awaken in her. Through the paintings, Petra Dobrevska manages to preserve her peace of mind, to keep the light within herself. By painting, she manages to feel the world around her, seeks an answer to everything that excites her and preserves her spontaneity towards art, which is felt by the audience.

Her works are like a door through which one can enter and get lost in order to relax. They are like a space where you can get the light, hope, optimism, faith and love you need. The light that is in her she also transmits to her paintings. As a manifestation of this inner illumination, they convey the bright feelings of the author and the viewers.

Petra is a bright person. Her optimism is in large doses. Her faith in goodness and love always bring her out of dark moods and situations. Even in a situation of pandemic, social isolation and various clashes, she maintains her cheerful perception and her confidence that every crisis period, no matter how difficult it is, is also a new, great opportunity. In her exhibitions No Limits and Waking Worlds, she shows paintings she created during the pandemic. Despite its negatives, the artist constantly turns to the positive in life. This gap of time brings her back to painting landscapes and various elements taken from nature.

For her, this is a new stage in which she creates works that she has not done before, because she painted abstract painting. The experience in this direction and the good handling of the possibilities of color direct it above all to a lighter color and a warm range. That is probably why yellow, red, blue, green and their derivatives - orange, pink, purple - predominate in her paintings. They largely bring an optimistic mood and touch a person's sensitivity, definitely setting his emotions on a positive wave. They make him forget negative feelings and experiences.

In the last one or two years, during the isolation, Petra Dobrevska managed to create many picturesque works. Their messages are connected with beautiful and radiant thoughts and feelings and convey the harmony and sunny character of their author and the viewer. They radiate the light that the artist carries within herself. During this period, when she remained in the studio and devoted herself to her great love – painting, she painted real and imaginary landscapes. He is inspired by nature and from which he draws everything that which we lack in the urbanized society.

Opening her senses to the world of spiritual things prompts her to create work that reflects this idea. The work "Waking Worlds" is also the title of an exhibition that the artist presents in April 2021 at the "Boris Hristov" house-museum in Sofia. On it, she shows about 100 canvases. The name of the exhibition, the author connects with the confused time in which we live - a time of anxiety, worries and unrest. And with the painting, which is included in this exhibition and gave its name, she tries to find new, more harmonious spaces that will lead her out of thoughts related to troubles, difficulties, worries. For this purpose, he uses the abstract visions of fire - the fire of love and warmth, which is associated with joy, happiness, flourishing. The other - the fire of change, which transforms, transforms, displaces, modifies and the third - the purifying fire of art, which leads us to the spiritual and shows us that the world is not only material.

Circumstances have recently forced her to primarily paint, but she has experience in many other areas of visual art as well. Petra is a versatile, non-standard artist. She he goes beyond the conventional, the banal, the template and pays attention to all his gifts as an artist. These include hand drawn animation, body art, professional make-up, performance art, art installations and visual poetry. She realized her idea of the synthesis between the arts with the performance "Courtyards". Many artists take part in it - dancers, musicians. It also includes a special sound, her painting and photographic works, which she presents on the walls of the interior space of a dilapidated house, where she also projects the visual poetry
