VITTORIO SGARBI
THE ARTISTS IN THE SGARBI COLLECTION
To the Artist:
Giuliana Morandini
I, more than other critics in Italy, have felt the desire to apply a French method that has a long tradition in the Salons des Refuses, in which it was possible to recognize, in less difficult and less "populated" times, artists like Manet and Gauguin. By now, I have seen thousands of projects, knowing that many and most have not been discovered or have other, different avenues to exhibit their talents. The "Sgarbi Collection" project selects some of them, like a constellation in an ever-expanding firmament. The right to exist for an artist means the possibility to leave the solitary anonymity of his or her studio. To achieve this, a simple exhibition is not enough; we need someone who has clout, someone who wants to discover their potential and take them under his or her protective wing; able to describe to the public the essence of each artist's message. The selection of their work for my collection of prints and drawings attests to the value of their artwork and their consistent artistic commitment. In an era marked by the attempt to place a price on everything and everyone, and a degree of marketability, this art collection returns as a medium by which these works of art regain their real value, both "priceless" and timeless.
