The legendary Tashunka Witko (1840-1877) war chief of the Oglala, one of the Lakota Sioux tribes, was one of the protagonists of the victorious battle of the Little Bighorn on June 25, 1876, a coalition of about 1800/2000 Native Americans defeated the 7th Cavalry Regiment commanded by the legendary General Custer; that day, in less than half an hour, Custer and his 225 United States Army cavalrymen were exterminated.
