Das Spiegelbild der Kirche
Description
"The Reflection of the Church" explores the symbolism of the cross as an expression of institutional fragmentation.
Protection and hope give way to betrayal and the cover-up of sexual abuse.
The choice of the color black is deliberate, intended to illustrate the Church's path—a path leading from light into darkness, marked by the inadequate investigation of sexual abuse of children within the Church institution. This darkness is revealed in the broken shards of the mirror, symbolizing the distorted image the Church leaves behind through its actions and omissions.
The work is a memorial to the victims, a call for accountability, and an urgent reminder of the need for accountability.
It demands that the shadows of the past be illuminated and that there be a consistent commitment to a just reckoning with these crimes.
