Description

The painting is a portrait of Rezvan, depicted in a dignified and elegant pose, seated with curly, reddish hair that falls softly over her shoulders. She is dressed in a classic black gown that leaves her shoulders bare, adorned with a pearl necklace, a sparkling brooch, a delicate bracelet on her left wrist, and a ring.

Rezvan is an Iranian woman whose childhood was marked by difficult experiences in a conservative Islamic environment. From a young age, she suffered sexual abuse at the hands of her own uncle, a man of high rank in the army with social recognition. When she sought support from her aunt, Rezvan was met with rejection and blame instead of help.

Rezvan also practices the Bahá'í faith, a religion that promotes equal rights between men and women and lacks a clerical system—values that deeply contrast with the principles of Iran's Islamic government. This faith has led to the persecution of thousands of Bahá'ís throughout Iran’s history.

Seeking freedom and respect, Rezvan decided to leave her country and start anew in Spain. However, in her new environment, she also faced challenges, including new episodes of harassment.

"Decision" defines Rezvan, who chose to leave everything familiar behind to rebuild her life in a country offering religious freedom and respect for women.
