Bedroom in Arles
Description
Vincent Van Gogh, describing the work to his brother, explained that "since the simplification gives the objects a more marked tone, the result is an impression of rest". The space, open to our gaze, seems to welcome us, inviting us to silence and recollection. Vincent represented a happy island, that domestic ideal, orderly and harmonious, which responded to his wishes. Few personal items contribute to giving the room the appearance of a place characterized by its inhabitant, a dwelling full of peace that the painter so rarely found in life.
The painting continues on the sides of the canvas, in order to make the frame optional.
