Passage

​PASSAGE (Varco) is a delicate threshold between past and future, an invisible passage that the most ancient part of ourselves attempts to cross, as if trying to leave behind a closed era to gaze toward an uncertain tomorrow.

​The diagonal fracture, dark and vivid, is a painful and unstable passage: it is not merely a cut, but a suspended moment in which every grain of matter holds onto memory, while every delicate light opens a space toward the new.

​The artwork is a breath in which past and future brush past each other, never fully meeting, as if every step toward what lies ahead were held back by the gravity of a memory. Thus, in this waiting, we find ourselves once again, suspended in the unfolding of time.

​Technique

​The artwork is constructed through layers of acrylic glazes and textural interventions that transform the painted surface into an unstable perceptive space. Black sand, grit of various grain sizes, and modeling pastes create an irregular texture capable of absorbing and reflecting light unevenly, generating varying degrees of depth within the dominant deep blue-black.

​The diagonal fracture traversing the painting is treated not as a linear element, but as a physical and visual threshold: its edges thicken, dissolve, and break off through variations in density, opacity, and luminous refraction.

​Cold chromatic glazes, crossed by minimal warm interferences, create a dynamic perception of the image, where the figure progressively emerges from the medium without ever fully detaching from it.

​The entire technical execution is designed to slow down the viewer’s engagement, compelling the eye to shift between surface and depth, presence and dissolution.

​This experience is further heightened by the finish itself, which transitions from the matte quality of the dark contours to the almost mirror-like gloss of the subject, amplifying the emotional impact.
