Transit of St. Joseph
Description
My interpretation of the transit of St. Joseph in which I represent: Jesus, Mary, and St. Joseph in the moment before death.
In the central part, Saint Joseph lies dying in bed, supported by Jesus' arm on the left, and Maria SS. to the right of her, clutching her shawl to his chest.
In the upper part I have depicted the gates of paradise with clouds filling the room surrounded by angels and cherubs, in which there is a dove in the center, which symbolizes the Holy Spirit. Each Angel represented performs a task, the Cherubim smooth out the clouds to let the dove (Holy Spirit) pass, the one in the center hands the halo to St. Joseph, and indicates with a serious look what the little angel must do with the stick of St. Joseph, top right, an angel who emerges from a cloud scolds the little angel represented bottom left who has improvised a carpenter forgetting the task entrusted to him by the older angels, that of collecting the carpentry equipment and carrying it in heaven.
The atmosphere of the picture is sad, but I wanted to alleviate this sadness with the sympathy of the "carpenter" angel who is building a stool, in his own way.
I started painting in mid-December 2022 to finish in February 2023, I consider this painting as my first work of 2023.
