Why have I chosen the artworks of Assunta Cassa for this exhibition at the Pacetti Centre? Because it is developed around tango, something I am so keen on? Because they talk about an environment and an atmosphere that are so familiar to me? Because they are artworks richly full of substance and use colour in an extravagant way? Probably all these reasons influenced my choice, but in reality I now that her work is way beyond my evaluations and I think also beyond her own too. It is a very lively art, full of aspects that make her travel from the suburbs of Buenos Aires or of Paris to the vision of a digital humanity that tries to recompose itself in quick contacts of a kiss or in a captivating dance. Everything appears as in a clownish theater wrapped around fascinating environments, sometimes in the open air and other times in shadows full of trapped characters, acting as a chorus to the vivid dancing harlequins. All this happens, as it should be in the era of virtual communication, on a big screen, where pixels compose the picture, are highlighted to create this dual vision between two journeys, a romantic one through past memories, and the other towards this enhanced modernity in which we are all immersed. Finally, I understand that to have the opportunity to be able to dialogue with the artwork of Assunta is surely important because she will force us to meet the various states of our inner world that is definitely worth facing through her art.
