Biography

Philippe Thuriet is a self-taught painter, drawing artist, sculptor and poet born in 1969 in Dijon, France. Drawing has always been an essential part of his life… his pencils, sanguine chalk and charcoals serve as his very oxygen.
With a degree in Art Cabinetmaking and Marquetry, he naturally transitioned toward wood carving, later expanding his practice to ironwork and clay modeling.
Driven by an inexhaustible curiosity, he deeply studied anatomy, exploring osteology to understand the human skeleton and myology to master the mechanics of muscles. This rigorous technical foundation allowed him to capture the human form through numerous life drawings, portraits and singular sketches.

His artistic journey reached a turning point when he discovered oil painting. Approaching the medium with the soul of a sculptor, he instinctively began working with a palette knife before incorporating brushes to refine his canvas.
Across all his chosen media, Philippe applies geometry to calculate the exact proportions of his pieces. As a multidisciplinary artist, his passion drives him to master diverse materials and creative techniques, constantly prompting him to explore new movements, including Cubism.

« When I touch the canvas, I feel as thought touching the stars and dancing with my creatures.
The piece is already complete within my consciousness.
Instinctively, I begin with my pencil ; my subconscious expresses itself, intensifying the creation before the oil paint sublimates the color.
At that exact moment, l feel as I am emerging directly from the tube.
A shift occurs, I become the brush.
The beginning belongs to me, the end belongs to me, the middle is another world... My paintings bleed my own sweat.
Music continuously resonates in my eardrum.
I create while pogoing with my creatures.
They too join the dance.

I leave them place, I let them live.
