An Elephant Was Balancing...

Description

An elephant balances on a tightrope, carrying the Minerva Obelisk in the heart of Rome. A real and recognisable monument is removed from its original context and transformed into a suspended, almost impossible scene.

Around it, the landscape gradually loses its realistic references: sky, water, hills and architecture are freely rearranged, while the elephant's precarious balance becomes the symbolic centre of the work.

Reality and imagination coexist within the same space, anticipating the artistic research that would later develop into “Beyond Reality”.
