Description

ANDROMEDA 122X82

Andromeda's mother, Cassiopeia, boasted of being as beautiful as the Nereids, incited the fury of Poseidon, who decided to flood the earth and send a sea monster (Ceto according to some authors) to kill men and cattle. Cepheus, Andromeda's father, knew from the oracle of Amun what the only solution was: to give his daughter to the monster. Consequently, he left her chained, naked and dressed only in jewels.

Perseus, who after killing Medusa had received winged sandals as a gift from the Hesperides, saw her chained and fell in love with her. He went down to the beach to speak with Cepheus and Cassiopeia to ask for the young woman's hand in exchange for killing the monster.
