Description

ESTÉROPE 100X65

In Greek mythology, Sterope (ancient Greek for "lightning"), also called Asterope ("starry face") and even Asteria ("starry"), was one of the seven Pleiades. These were the seven daughters of Atlas and the Oceanid Pleione, born on Mount Cylenus in Arcadia and catasterized in the heavens.

In the oldest version, which is ironically the one most cited by Latin authors, it is said that Sterope was the mother of Oenomaus from her romance with Ares. It can be seen that Oenomaus' daughter, Hippodamia, is never cited as the daughter of Sterope.
