The battleship of Capri
Description
Joachim Murat watched the naval battle of Capri from his house in Sant'Agata dei Due Golfi.
The painting depict a real historical event: the October 16, 1808 Joachim Murat, King of Naples and son in law of Napoleon overlooking the balcony of his house on Sant'Agata dei due Golfi, on the Sorrentine Peninsula, witness the naval battle that takes place in front of the island of Capri, among the English and French Navy ships. The conflict will end with the French victory, that after that battle ruled unchallenged for a long time the Tyrrhenian Sea.
On the facade of the house in Sant'Agata still a plaque now commemorates the event.
