The light in the dark of Florence
Description
A structure so large, steep above the skies, large enough to cover all Tuscan peoples with its shadow.
(Leon Battista Alberti)
The painting pays homage to Florence, in particular taking as a model one of its most grandiose architectures: the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, a masterpiece by Brunelleschi, flanked by Giotto's bell tower, seen from an angle near the Museo dell'Opera del Cathedral. Even in the dark of night the marble of the Florentine cathedral shines creating magical atmospheres, as precious as the iridescent colors used to create the painting together with the encaustic.
