Life on land
Description
The Sustainable Development Goal 15 of the UN 2030 Agenda is devoted to “protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss”.
Forests have a significant role in reducing the risk of natural disasters. At global level, they mitigate climate change and contribute to the balance of oxygen, carbon dioxide and humidity in the air. They are the most biologically-diverse ecosystems on land, and provide shelter, jobs and security for forest-dependent communities. Therefore the future of forests in a sustainable development scheme is crucial.
This canvas was created during the live painting sessions at the Qatar International Art Festival and is inspired by the Amazon forest, the world’s largest tropical rainforest, famous for its biodiversity.
