Our Lady of Health

Description

In November, devotion to "Our Lady of Health" is celebrated in numerous parishes in the Triveneto area. The anniversary belongs to the chapter of "popular religiosity". It has its roots in the vow made by the Government of the Venetian Republic and the Doge himself to erect a votive temple if the city of Venice had survived the disease that was exterminating thousands of people. In November 1631 the disease was definitively extinguished, after a gradual and constant decline. On 21 November 1687 the famous temple dedicated to "Our Lady of Health in Venice" was consecrated. Since then, this devotion has spread to numerous communities. In 1904 this statue of Our Lady of Health was installed in a well-known cathedral.

In this commissioned painting I tried to reproduce the statue as faithfully as possible, recreating a mystical aura through the use of gold.
