Geographic maps, maps that faithfully return the geography of a territory from above, with its reliefs and depressions, have always fascinated us. Sometimes the photographs we have taken from the plane, flat and almost abstract, have suggested pictorial themes, as if they were painting themselves. As in this case, where the obsessional geometric design of "water fields" other than rice fields in southern Vietnam reminds us vividly of the design of a glassy mosaic crossed, like a snapping whip, from a stream that is thrown into the Mekong delta
