Description

"...Marcia Nuziale is derived from La Marche Nuptiale by Brassens. It lightly and cheerfully recounts the humble wedding of the narrator's parents, who marry after a long engagement during which their child was born. Despite a fierce storm attempting to disrupt the ceremony, it ends with a joyful 'long live the newlyweds..."

In October 2006, I left the Italian Air Force to follow my instinct back to Milan, towards a new job and a new love. Within a few months, my friend Gianluca joined me at same airline.

I see marriage not only as the union of two people but also as an inseparable bond between people and their ideals, vices, virtues, rhetoric, work, and pleasures. Therefore, I leave it to the observer to assign the song's characters to these human categories: Smirters, Prodi, and Andreotti fighting over a bicycle, Pope John Paul II (who died that year), Susi, Rino Gattuso, Lapo Elkann, Montezemolo, Fabrizio Corona, the Emir of Abu Dhabi, Calipari, Uncle Sam, and Cardinal Ruini.

Gianluca and Silvia have always represented, in my eyes, a unique, atypical couple, not the stereotypical 'Perfect Couple' that often falls apart, but rather two individuals who integrate perfectly thanks to their 'flaws.' I thought of them when I decided to paint this song.

Their loyal and grumpy dog, Pio IX, plays the role of the narrator, observing the scene with arrogance and presumption. But he always knew best!

I was always amused by the story Gianluca told me about his sister's wedding when her new husband arrived at the church with his MAN truck, which they drove away in after the ceremony. Including it in the painting seemed fitting, symbolizing our mutual decision to leave the military and 'drive' towards new adventures with friends.

I dedicate this painting to old and new friends, especially to Gianluca and Silvia and their union!"
