The scream of Leonidas: "COME AND GET THEM"
Description
The scream of the king of Sparta Leonidas: "COME AND GET THEM"
Originally, Ancient Greek, "Μολὼν λαβέ". The pronunciation is Molòn labé! Which translated into English means "Come and get them!"
This is the answer, as reported by the historians of the time (Plutarch and Herodotus), given by Leonidas to the Persian king Xerxes, to the request to hand over his weapons in the battle of Thermopylae. An unequal battle: 150,000 Persians against about 14,000 Greeks, including 300 Spartans. In the end the Persian army had the upper hand but at a high price, in fact the deployment of Leonidas, in addition to resisting the various attacks for a week, managed to inflict serious losses and to undermine the morale of Xerxes' troops, who, after having reported a series of heavy defeats against the Greek army, he abandoned Greece forever and the idea of conquering it.
