Description

THE TOWER 81x130

The arcane of The Tower, the Watchtower, the Lighthouse Tower, the tower of fire, the tower struck by lightning, the castle or fortress that collapses, everything related to the sin of pride, arrogance, believing oneself superior to others and wanting to dominate them, the selfishness of power and, consequently, wanting to compare oneself to the gods, who, in response, strike down the deluded and sinful with their deadly rays. This is the reason why in the arcane there is (in most Tarots) a lightning bolt destroying the top of a tower, from which two men fall, symbolizing failed projects and desires, illusions that fall into the void.

As the tower was a classic construction that served to defend oneself from enemies from the same or to protect a town or square, it is not an arcane of good personal omen to see it collapse. For Jung, it symbolizes the dissolution of the ego, of the "I," the disappearance or collapse of the blockages and defenses that support the "persona" archetype, one of the facets of personality.

It can be considered that, on a personal level, it is a card that "manifests the forced changes of wrong thoughts," since it must be interpreted "as a ray of light of understanding, emanating from the sky, from the unconscious, that falls upon the Tower, the body.

The summit or dome that crumbles or is knocked down by the lightning symbolizes the thoughts that are discarded, that fall into the void, to make way for new ideas."
