Description
VENUS 130x97
Venus was the goddess of love, beauty and fertility in Roman mythology who was worshipped and celebrated in many Roman religious festivals and myths. From the 3rd century BC, the increasing hellenisation of the Roman upper classes identified her with the Greek goddess Aphrodite. She was the wife of Vulcan. Julius Caesar adopted her as his protector and Virgil, in flattery to his patron Augustus and the gens Julia, pointed out that Venus was the ancestor of the Roman people through its legendary founder Aeneas and his son Lulu.
